Tasty Paella on offer at Palm Oasis in Maspalomas

At the Palm Oasis Hotel in Maspalomas, you’ll find a hard working chef who makes a giant Paella every Sunday.

Lucy visited the hotel and was lucky enough to taste it, and not only enjoying the food, she took her time to film the process as well.

She added for us:

This version is Paella Mixta (NOT Valencian paella!), and ingredients include pork, chicken, fish, prawns, mussels, asparagus, peas & beans. There are many different version of paella – just use the ingredients you like best!

I’m hungry now, off to prepare some food.

White Party on Gran Canaria

White Party Gran Canaria

Gran Canaria is not only long days on the beach, tasty al fresco dinners and a regrettable sunburn. It may not rival Ibiza, but it’s up there with Mykonos, Zante and Mallorca. Particularly Playa del Ingles is a popular destination for party travellers.

The video below is showing some footage from a white party (everyone dressed in white) on Gran Canaria.

Cheap and sunny in Agadir

The marina in Agadir

We know that Gran Canaria is your preferred sunny destination. But in case you should fancy a vacation to a cheap Moroccoan resort - Look no longer than to the seaside city of Agadir.

At AgadirTruth.com you’ll find a bit of info on the beach, attractions (there are not many), shopping and hotels.

The bustling city has a 10 km long beach with golden sand waiting for Europeans who want a bit of tan and fun.

There’s a vast selection of 4- and 5-star hotels dotted along the seaside promenade. Take your pick.

The weather in Agadir is more windy and slightly colder than the southern part of Gran Canaria, you are hereby warned.

Cheap

The price level is very moderate, and you will get plenty of bang for your buck if you decide to visit.

Puerto Mogan fisherman

Statue in Puerto Mogan

Not many fishermen left in Puerto Mogan, but I came across this fella on my last visit.

Randi from Norway gave me some additional information about the fisherman:

There is a sign next to the statue where it is written (loosely translated):  Elías Hernández García was born in 1880 and died in 1974. He was a familiar sight in Puerto Mogan. A pittoresque figuere, who sold fruit and sugar cane. His long silence and facial gestures has been imprintend in the collective memory of Playa de Mogan.

Thank you to Randi and her blog (Written in Norwegian).

Hell-Sinki nightclub in Playa del Ingles

Hell Sinki club in Playa del Ingles

Experience a little bit of dancing heaven in Hell-Sinki, a Finnish night club in Playa del Ingles.

The sign may scare you away. But it did not seem such a bad place. The club had an older clientele (50+), live music, lots of couples dancing and enjoying themselves.

No cover charge either, and decently priced beer.

Gran Canaria in the 1960s

Gran Canaria beach

The guy who posted this photo to Flickr says it’s a scan from a 1960s travel guide. Where is it? Is it Puerto Rico before all the hotels occupied the hillside?
