The best theme park

Our recommended theme parks

You’ve got 10 days, two kids, a budget, a beautiful island and dozens attractions to choose from. Where should you go?

Though it’s hard to pick and choose among Gran Canaria’s multitude of theme parks, I’d go for Parque de los Cocodrilos for education and value and Aqualand for pure fun.

Crocodiles

Parque de los Cocodrilos is only 7 to 10 Euros, which is half the cost of Palmitos Park — the island’s other zoological park — and it has most of what Palmitos has including a bird show. Aside from its impressive reptile collection and crocodile feeding, it also has Bengal tigers, chimpanzees, tropical fish and dozens of other animals. More importantly, the park started as an animal refuge and continues to take in abused and illegally traded animals.

Water fun

If you want to spend a day in the sun but away from the beach, Aqualand is the place to go. For a family of four it’s about 100 Euros to get in the 90,000 square meter park but with 13 attractions and 33 water slides, it’s a price worth paying. This is a great option if you have small kids and teenagers. Rides that are appealing to teenagers — the Tornado, for example — are a bit much for little kids but there’s plenty for them to do too. The rides are awesome and discounts are available.
